Congenital Curved Penis

5

Congenital curved penis is relatively uncommon and can present late in adolescence or early adulthood. The incidence is estimated at 0.6%, but the estimate of clinically significant disease is much lower, as there is a wide variation in the degree of deviation and sexual dysfunction.
Congenital curved penis can be misclassified as Peyronie's disease because of its similar clinical manifestations, although the etiology and pathophysiology are different.
The curvature can be to either side, with dorsal curvature (towards the navel) being the most common. It can also be associated with hypostadia/epispadias.

PRESENTATION:
While most penile malformations appear in childhood, the congenital curved penis tends to manifest itself in late adolescence and early adulthood, as penile tortuosity during erection. Patients often complain that their penis "bends" when they try to penetrate it. Those with curvatures greater than 30 degrees tend to seek medical help more actively.
This change has a huge impact on the confidence and self-esteem of the affected patient, often leading to depression and social isolation.

TREATMENT:
Congenitally curved penises are treated surgically, either by surgery to slightly shorten the long side of the penis or by augmenting the short side by inserting a graft.
Each case must be individually analyzed and discussed with your doctor, taking into account the pros and cons.
Dr. Alexandre Miranda performs the surgery using a technique where it is not necessary to remove the phimosis, leaving no scar on the penis.
