What is CO2 Laser Circumcision?
CO2 laser circumcision is a modern approach in which a high-precision laser is used to remove the foreskin (the skin that covers the glans penis). This technique offers significant advantages over traditional scalpel surgery, such as shorter surgical times and better healing.
Questions and answers
What Are the Advantages of CO2 Laser Circumcision?
-
Less bleeding: The CO2 laser cuts and coagulates tissue at the same time, which means there is much less blood loss during the procedure
-
Shorter Surgical Time: Compared to the conventional method, surgery time is significantly reduced.
-
Less post-operative pain: Patients undergoing CO2 laser circumcision report much less pain after the procedure, both on the first day and in the first week. This is due to the effect of the laser, which seals the nerve endings, promoting less irritation and inflammation.
-
Better healing and aesthetic results: The CO2 laser allows for faster healing and a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing scar. The risk of irregular or prominent scars is reduced, resulting in a much better final appearance
-
Less edema (swelling): As the laser causes less thermal damage to the surrounding tissues, there is less swelling compared to the traditional technique
-
Lower risk of complications: The laser reduces the risk of infections and other complications, such as bleeding and detached stitches, as well as reducing the need for reoperations
How is the procedure performed?

CO2 laser circumcision is a quick and simple procedure. First, the patient is sedated (put to sleep) and given a local anesthetic so as not to feel pain. Then the doctor uses a device that emits a very precise laser beam to remove the skin covering the head of the penis (the foreskin).
The great thing about this laser is that it cuts and at the same time "seals" the blood vessels, which greatly reduces bleeding. In addition, the laser helps the skin to heal more quickly and with less swelling. The whole procedure only takes a few minutes and the patient can go home the same day.
The recovery is smooth, with less pain and a very good aesthetic result.
How long after the procedure can I resume sexual activity?

A 30-day break is required after the procedure before returning to sexual relations.
Does circumcision surgery hurt?

No. During the surgery, you will receive a local anesthetic that prevents any pain during the procedure. In the post-operative period, the use of pain medication helps to keep discomfort well under control. Patients who opt for the CO2 laser report less pain compared to the traditional method.
How long does the surgery last?

CO2 laser circumcision takes around 15 to 20 minutes and is quicker than the traditional method. After the surgery, you can go home the same day.
Will I bleed a lot during the surgery?

No. The CO2 laser cuts and at the same time coagulates blood vessels, which minimizes bleeding during surgery. It is much safer and cleaner than the traditional scalpel method.
What is the recovery process like?

Recovery is relatively easy. You may feel slight discomfort in the first few days, but as the laser causes less swelling and irritation, healing is faster and pain is less. After about 7 days, patients are already feeling very well.
Although the initial recovery is quick, it is recommended that you avoid intense activity and sexual intercourse for around four weeks to ensure complete healing. But within the first few days, you'll be able to return to light activities.
Will the scar be visible?
The scarring after a CO2 laser circumcision is usually very discreet. This method offers a superior aesthetic result, with thinner and less visible scars.
Is there a risk of complications?
Like any surgery, circumcision has small risks, such as infection or bleeding. However, with the CO2 laser, these risks are lower, and serious complications are rare. The laser technique is more precise and offers a safer recovery.
Can I go back to work straight after surgery?

In many cases, yes. Depending on the type of work, you can return to your activities within a few days, especially if it's light work. However, it is important to follow medical advice to avoid excessive physical exertion in the first few days.
Will I need to take any special care after the surgery?

Yes. You will need to apply an antibiotic ointment and keep the surgical site clean. Also, avoid prolonged hot baths for the first few days and follow your doctor's instructions on the use of medication and dressings.
Can circumcision affect my sex life?

No. Circumcision, especially when performed with the CO₂ laser method, does not impair sexual life. After complete recovery, many patients report that the sensitivity of the penis remains unchanged, as well as noticing an improvement in hygiene and comfort after surgery.
