The indication occurs when Peyronie's disease is associated with one of the following scenarios:
- Associated Erectile DysfunctionThis is the main indication. It occurs when the patient presents with erectile dysfunction (present in 20% to 50 percent of cases of Peyronie) that does not respond to drug treatments, such as pills or injections.
- Significant Volume LossWhen the disease causes severe shortening or thinning (loss of caliber). In these cases, surgery with a prosthesis can be associated with advanced techniques of tissue expansion, being the only approach that allows to recover part of the length and caliber.
- Very Severe or Complex DeformitiesIn cases of extreme curvatures, multiple planes or great axial instability (the “weak points” that cause the penis to bend), where circumcision or graft surgery alone would not be sufficient to ensure a straight and functional result.
Note on the type of prosthesis: Among the available models, the inflatable prosthesis generally provides greater volume recovery, better aesthetic results, and a more natural erection sensation compared to the malleable prosthesis.
