The surgery is recommended when Peyronie's disease is in the chronic phase (stable) — that is, when the curvature has stopped progressing and there is no more pain — and one of the following criteria is present:
- Functional difficultyThe deformity (curvature, narrowing or shortening) causes difficulty or impossibility of having a penetrative sexual relationship.
- Psychological impactThe aesthetic and emotional impact of the deformity significantly affects the patient's self-confidence and quality of life, even if penetration is still possible.
